Natalie started as a PhD student in January 2020, working alongside Dr Simon Woods and Dr Kenneth Taylor. Her research will focus on responsible innovation and policy approaches relating to synthetic biology, with a particular interest in food industry applications. Natalie aims to investigate the social and ethical implications of biotechnological developments while identifying opportunities for public engagement.
Miron graduated in Biochemistry at the University of Huddersfield and later received his Master degree from the Liverpool John Moores University focusing on Drug discovery and Design.
Miron started his doctoral studies at Newcastle University in September 2019 in the group of Dr Yulia Yuzenkova.
In his project,
David has been working as a Data Analyst in financial services for the last 3 years before coming to study at Newcastle University. He completed his BSc in Biological Sciences at the University of Exeter with a focus in computational biology. David participated in the iGEM competition for the 2015 Exeter iGEM team with a project focused on producing a synthetic biosensor for bovine tuberculosis.
Neil Mackenzie graduated from Oxford Brookes in Biological Sciences, following this he then studied his MSc at the same institution under the Supervision of Dr Ryan Pink. His MSc dissertation was on the development of a point of care test using High resolution Melt Analysis. During this time, he became exposed to the world of programming and computing.
Jordan has in the past worked as a Business Intelligence Consultant and graduated with an MSc in Bioinformatics and BSc in Pharmacology from Newcastle University. During his masters studies he worked on a research project involving analysis of electroencephalogram (EEG) data using machine learning techniques.
Jordan started studying a PhD in Machine Learning for Synthetic Biology in April 2019 under the supervision of Dr Jaume Bacardit.
Yiming majored in computer science for Bachelor in Heilongjiang University of China and received her Master degree in financial computing in Queen Mary, University of London. She also worked as a software engineer in a bank for 6 years.
