Portabolomics Annual Review 2018
We were successfully hosting our first Portabolomics Annual Review on the 16th of February 2018 at the Urban Science Building, which is the new home of the School of Computing at Newcastle University.
The Annual Review not only included great talks from different PIs and Post-doctoral Research Associates, but also poster presentations from all Research Associates and PhD students of the project.
The meeting was chaired by Dr Davide de Lucrezia (CEO Explora Biotech, Venice, Italy) and Prof Mark Smales (University of Kent, Director BioProNet) and most of our International Advisory Board members coming from industry and academia as well as Joanne Holbourn from EPSRC joined the Review.
In addition, we were running our first Responsible Research and Innovation Directorate meeting, which was organised by our Social Scientists Prof Simon Woods and Dr Ken Taylor from PEALS at Newcastle University. Prof Lionel Clarke who is a Co-chair of the Synthetic Biology Leadership Council also joined the meeting as an external member.
The Annual Review wasn’t just talks and meetings, we also had two social events in the evening: one dinner for all International Advisory Board members, who came from as far as Argentina to join the Review, and the PIs of the project, as well as a dinner at Blackfriars Restaurant for all participants of the Annual Review after the event on Friday.
Overall, the event was a great success, we had a very productive meeting with lots of fruitful discussions and valuable advice from our IAB members.
