PEALS Research Centre, Strand P1: Responsible Research and Innovation
Dr Kenneth Taylor is a social scientist whose research interests center on the issues raised by developments in biological sciences for both policymakers and the people whose lives could be affected. Ken works with Dr Simon Woods on ‘Responsible Innovation’ in synthetic biology. This involves engaging in both empirical and conceptual research; exploring the implications of the ‘Portabolomics’ concept for developments in research and industrial application. This research will lead towards workshops which bring together scholars and practitioners from a broad range of disciplines, to address the notion of synthetic biology as a ‘common good’. Ken will also draw on his experience of working in different environments to inform research, with Dr Heath Murray, which seeks to identify and implement best practice in interdisciplinary team working. Ken is a member of the Newcastle University Policy Academy Fellows Programme, developing knowledge and skills to improve the impact of academic research on policymaking.
